This clock is an excellent example of Boulle work, and it retains its original exposed-Ruby escapement movement. Andr?Charles Boulle, a famous cabinetmaker of King Louis XIV, gave this technique its name. The case is veneered in tortoise shell, inlaid with brass. The name on the enameled face of the clock is Aubert & Klaftenberger Geneve, and the same name is stamped on the back plate of the movement. Notice how the inside of the pendulum area is also decorated with the Boulle work, as well as the entire back of the case. Note the bi-metal pendulum, a feature found on the best clocks. This is a clock to be respectfully admired from every side. The clock movement is in excellent condition and is a precise timekeeper. A most extraordinary clock, in superb condition. The client from whom we bought the clock was a descendant of an aristocratic Russian family. She said her forebears brought it with them when they fled St. Petersburg and moved into exile in Bordeaux, France in the early part of the 1900's.
